COACH OUTING TO ETON COLLEGE & ST
GEORGE’S CHAPEL, WINDSOR
Eton College was founded in 1440 by Henry VI and is one of the oldest
and best known schools in the country. Many of the original historic
buildings are still in use and we shall have an extended tour which
includes these and the magnificent College chapel. After the tour we
will have free time for lunch.
At 2.30 pm we will be met at St George’s Chapel Gate by a steward
who will accompany us to the Chapel for our guided tour. Edward IV began
building the Chapel for the Order of the Knights of the Garter and Richard
III continued the building work. It is the burial place of Kings and
Queens, including Edward IV, Elizabeth Woodville and Henry VI, also
Richard’s sister, Anne St Leger, and William, Lord Hastings. It
is a magnificent building and a MUST SEE. It is not easy to get group
access to St George’s Chapel, so please take advantage of this
chance. It may never come again!
EVERYONE will require photographic ID – passport or driving licence
will do; Jean will need all names and addresses well in advance.
Price - £40.00 per person – includes coach, entry
fees and guides. Coach pick ups to be advised.

COACH OUTING TO LITTLE HALL, LAVENHAM
& CLARE CHURCH, SUFFOLK
We will have a coffee/comfort stop in Bury-St-Edmunds. Our lunch stop
will be in Lavenham, followed at 2.00 pm by a guided tour of Little
Hall. Little Hall is a rare survival of a wool merchant’s house
from the 14th Century and is one of the oldest buildings in Lavenham.
Little Hall is stuffed with art and artefacts collected by the Gayer-Anderson
brothers during their extensive travels in the 1920s and 30s. (The Gayer-Anderson
Museum in Cairo is world famous.) The rooms in Little Hall vary from
beams and latticed windows to exotic Persian panelling! Hopefully your
guide will be Fitz, who is full of interesting stories and has a great
love of the building. The tour will be followed by a visit to Clare
church, which is a perpendicular masterpiece. It has lots of interesting
things to see – not least a roof gallery of 15th Century faces,
a rare survival of the emblems of Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon
on the pews and a Green Man! Clare is listed by Simon Jenkins as one
of ‘England’s Thousand Best Churches’. We will then
have a cream tea in Long Melford.
Price - £31.00 – includes coach pick ups, tour of Little
Hall, visit to Clare and cream tea.
